DENTURES

aftercare

Remove and Rinse Dentures Daily

After eating, remove your dentures and rinse them thoroughly under running water to remove food particles and debris. This helps prevent plaque buildup and keeps your mouth clean.

Clean Dentures Daily

Brush your dentures daily using a soft-bristled toothbrush, mild denture cleaner, or dish soap. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, which can damage the denture material.

Soak Dentures Overnight

Soak your dentures in water or a cleaning solution overnight to keep them moist and prevent them from drying out. This also helps to loosen any remaining plaque or stains.

Brush Your Gums and Tongue

Even if you have no natural teeth, it’s essential to brush your gums, tongue, and palate with a soft-bristled toothbrush or gauze to remove plaque and stimulate circulation.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

Schedule regular checkups with your dentist to ensure that your dentures fit properly and are in good condition. Your dentist can also check for signs of oral health issues and provide professional cleaning and adjustments as needed.

Avoid Abrasive Cleaners

Avoid using abrasive cleaners, bleach, or harsh chemicals on your dentures, as these can damage the denture material and cause discolouration.

Monitor for Changes in Fit

Pay attention to any changes in the fit or comfort of your dentures, such as sore spots, looseness, or irritation. If you notice any issues, contact your dentist for an adjustment.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Even with dentures, it’s essential to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing your remaining natural teeth (if any), gums, tongue, and palate daily and flossing between any natural teeth and around dental implants.

Avoid Abrasive Foods

Avoid chewing on hard or sticky foods that can damage or dislodge your dentures. Cut foods into small, manageable pieces and chew slowly and evenly to prevent unnecessary strain on your dentures.

By following these aftercare tips, you can help ensure that your dentures remain clean, comfortable, and functional, allowing you to enjoy a healthy and confident smile.

Additionally, schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings to ensure your teeth’s health. If you have any concerns or notice any changes with your teeth, don’t hesitate to contact your dentist for guidance and assistance.
